The Australians can lay
claim to the longest fence
in the world - the Dingo Fence.
At 5,320 kilometres long, the fence is one of the longest structures on the planet and is 3.325 times longer than New Zealand!
Built during the 1880s, the 6 ft high
wire mesh fence, which also extends
1 ft underground, was designed to
part of the continent and protect the sheep flocks of southern Queensland. Although the fence was only partially successful - dingoes can still be found in parts of the southern states - it did reduce the losses of sheep to predators.

Why not make the line straight? How does it compare with the great wall of China?

The Great Wall of China is roughly 6,400 km long. About 1,100 km longer than the Dingo Fence.
